With the number of companies who control our media on the steady decline, it makes sense to check out alternative sources of news to get a balanced viewpoint on current issues. Here are a few we like:
Non-Profits and Organizations Supported by Pearl Jam
The Carbon Portfolio Strategy is the newest component of our ongoing efforts to advance clean renewable energy and carbon mitigation. Through this Strategy, we will donate a total of $100,000 to nine organizations doing innovative work around climate change, renewable energy, and the environment.
Cell phones, iPods, computers, batteries and tons of other electronics contain toxic metals that can pollute the environment and threaten human health.
It’s not always easy to figure out what to do with this stuff because ecycling is not as easy as recycling. However, many companies and programs offer free environmentally friendly disposal (and sometimes even provide additional incentives for recycling used products including cash or discounts).
Here’s what we’ve learned – feel free to send in other tips you’ve found to be helpful on this front.

The acclaimed Phil Donahue/Ellen Spiro documentary, Body of War is set for DVD release on October 28th. Body of War tells the heart-wrenching tale of our friend and hero Tomas Young who was paralyzed from the chest down after serving in Iraq for just one week. Tomas is forced to deal with the realities of war each and every day. For Tomas, learning to cope with his disability meant finding his voice to speak out against the war in Iraq.
